About ALF
The American Leadership Forum (ALF) was founded in Houston in 1980 by Joseph Jaworski, who left his successful law practice to address what he increasing saw as a crisis of leadership taking place throughout the country. His vision was to establish a national organization dedicated to bringing together leaders from various sectors in communities across the United States to develop their leadership skills and capacity, and strengthen their commitment to work together on public issues.
Today ALF has chapters in Memphis, Tennesse; Charlotte, North Carolina; Northern San Joaquin Valley (Great Valley), California; Houston/GulfCoast, Texas; Portland, Oregon; Sacramento (Mountain Valley), California; Silicon Valley, California; Tacoma, Washington; Waccamaw Region, South Carolina; and Michigan. More than 3,500 ALF Fellows have completed the original program, bringing to their disparate communities a new sense of commitment, understanding and interconnectedness.
ALF is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to join and strengthen diverse leaders to serve the common good. It does this through a yearlong Fellows Program in each chapter's community in which leaders engage in dialogue and build strong relationships. The ALF Program strengthens Fellows’ capacity to address public issues collaboratively and builds a strong leadership network to work for positive change in local communities.

About the ALF Wilderness Experience
The Wilderness Experience is an integral part of the yearlong ALF Fellows Program. It is an opportunity for class members to remove themselves from everyday life and devote time to building community as well as engaging in personal reflection. It is this week in the mountains that truly defines each class and helps to create the trust, understanding and skill needed to work collaboratively when leaders return home.
For ALF Houston Fellows, the Wilderness Experience takes place at Bison Peak Lodge in the majestic mountains of Colorado.
